Architecture is everywhere. It determines whether we feel comfortable, safe and at home in a flat, a building or a city. Since its founding in 1903, the Association of German Architects BDA has been committed to securing and improving the quality of planning and building in the interest of society and the environment.
BDA Activities
BDA promotes the culture of planning and building to improve residential space and quality of life through functionally and aesthetically designed buildings, squares and cities. With the objective of supporting autonomous planning, BDA works to mediate between clients and architects and advocates for public architectural competitions. BDA is committed to high-quality education for young architects and urban planners.
On the federal level, it presents itself to the public with annual events including “Berliner Gespräch“ (Berlin Discussion), “BDA-Tag“ (BDA Day) and public fora. It also communicates its positions on issues of debate in the media and publishes its own literature.
Presence through Regional BDA Associations
One of the particular strengths of the BDA is its regional presence in the form of 16 state offices as well as regional and municipal BDA subgroups. Committed to a continuing discourse on regional building culture, BDA supports a critical discussion on topics related to planning and building. It offers architectural awards and engages in numerous other activities – lectures, exhibitions, workshops and publications.
BDA Magazine „der architekt“
“der architekt“, a bi-monthly magazine, features architectural, theoretical and urban planning issues which are examined by international experts. Special emphasis is given to interdisciplinary approaches to contemporary architecture and architectural theory. „der architekt“ also reports on technical research on planning and execution giving it an applied dimension. German Centre for Architecture DAZ
With exhibitions, events and conferences the German Centre for Architecture DAZ provokes and promotes the discussion of architectural and urban planning issues in the wider public. The DAZ is committed to following national and international architectural trends and offers a forum for young architects in particular. BDA, through its funding of the DAZ, fulfills its commitment to contribute to the public debate on building culture. Further information on DAZ.
